Henderson Tchaikovsky spectacular concludes oops series The ever-popular music of Tchaikovsky, complete with the rousing "1812 Overture," will round out the Utah Symphony's Sym-phony's 1983 Summer Pops Series. The popularity of this all-Tchaikovsky concert in past seasons has resulted in the scheduling of an extra Sunday afternoon performance perfor-mance again this year Robert Henderson, former associate conductor of the Utah Symphony, returns to conduct the concerts, begin ning at 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12, in Symphony Hall, and 5 p m on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 13 and 14, at the Snowbird Pavilion. Opening the concert will be a Tchaikovsky favorite, Symphony No. 5. Henderson and the orchestra will then perform Suite from "Sleeping Beauty." The spectacular "1812 Overture" will provide the finale for the concert and the series. The overture was composed in 1880 for the consecration con-secration of the Temple of Christ the Redeemer in Moscow, built as a memorial to Napoleon's defeat in Russia in 1812. Tchaikovsky used the historic event as the program for the woik. The Mountain Men of the Wasatch Wa-satch will provide live artillery artil-lery effects for the Snowbird performances of the "1812 Overture," with Karl J. Furr's miniature cannons at Symphony Hall. The all-Tchaikovsky concert con-cert is made possible in part by a grant from Wendy's Old-Fashioned Hamburger Restaurants. Tickets for the Aug. 12, 13 and 14 pops concerts are a-vailable a-vailable at the Utah Symphony Sym-phony box office in Symphony Sym-phony Hall or at the door at Snowbird. |
