Commission will select a successor succes-sor to County Treasurer Bob Williams at its first meeting on Jan. 7. The commissioners will consider three finalists submitted to them by the central committee of the Summit County Republican Party. Treasurer Williams announced his resignation in October after serving two years of his four-year term. By law, Williams' political party, the GOP, has the right to submit nominations for his replacement. Williams told the Record about 16 people have contacted him about the job, and 10 or 11 are interested. But actual nominations nomina-tions will only be made from the 35-member Summit County Republican Central Committee when it meets on Jan. 3. The committee, he said, is made up of precinct chairmen and vice-chairmen, in addition to .county Vice-Chairman Judy Boar and Secretary-Treasurer Glen Thompson. (Williams himself is county chairman, but will not participate.) From the nominations, the committee will choose three finalists. Williams will stay on until the end of January to orient the new treasurer. |
