Show Norwegian School to offer winter excursions into Uintas by Christopher Smart The Norwegian School of Nature life is off and skiing into its winter season. This winter the school, under the direction of Tom Cammermeyer, is offering overnight touring in the Uinta Mountains, track skiing at Park Meadows and ski rentals through the New Park Cyclery, among other things. As many local residents are aware, the School of Nature Life teaches more than skiing. The philosophy behind the school is to bring back a more natural way of life. As the Norwegian School teaches it, we should slow down a little bit and enjoy the things around us. To foster its philosophies, the school has opened a cabin in Soapstone Basin in the Uinta range for ski tours that range from day-tours to week-long outings. For those who may consider themselves heartier than average, Cammermeyer and the Norwegian School teach the fine art of living in snow caves. But Cammermeyer is quick to point out that all group outings are geared to the slowest and least experienced member of the group. A little closer to home, the Norwegian School offers private and group lessons on the six-kilometer track at the Park Meadows Golf Course. For the skier who wants a little more than the track, the school has a trail in Round Valley, east of Park Meadows. Combination lessons and tours are also offered through the Norwegian School. Cammermeyer said these outings will take place in the vicinity of Flagstaff Mountain and the Keetley trail. But whether it is track skiing or overnight touring, the Norwegian School has special packages this winter to meet the needs of individuals and groups. The tours and lessons are geared to de-emphasize competition and stress, Cammermeyer said, for a positive experience that can be incorporated into everyday life. As Cammermeyer puts it, "Velg tur eftereune." Translated, that means, "choose the way that's best for man and nature." Brochures outlining specific programs pro-grams and events for the Norwegian School of Nature Life are now available at lodging desks, the Park City Recreation Department and at New Park Cyclery. |
