Park City Sled Racer Tries for Uinta Win Park City musher Doug Willett will attempt to defend his title and win for the third straight year as he takes his dog sled team to the track in the annual Uinta-Summit 86 Middle Distance Sled- Dog Championships Cham-pionships March 19-20. Willet, running a team of Siberian Huskies, wilj have to stave1 off some outstanding competition. The Veteran driver has been a well-known figure on Intermountain dog trails. He finished second in the Jackson Hole, Wyo., 60 mile race earlier this season. The winner of that race, Jack Beckstrom of Kalispell. Mont., is expected to test Willett the most in the Uinta race. The course carries the drivers and teams 43 miles one-way through the Uinta region on highway 150 past Mirror Lake and back the following day. The groomed track makes for some fast time for the distance. Last year, Willett ran his 14 pure Siberians from mile six at the beginning of the unplowed section of highway 150 to the Bear River station in four hours 33 minutes. returned over the same trail in five hours and 12 minutes and averaged 8.82 m.p.h. for the trip. This year's race is expected expect-ed to attract as many as 10 teams and drivers, including one who has been in an 1,100 mile race in Alaska.
