Show George Ho r rocks George Sheldon Horrocks, a long-time Park City miner, died Nov. 1 in a HeberCity hospital. He was 72. ' He was born in April, 1912, in Heber, to Thomas, and .Sarah, Jane Mair Horrocks. He married Helen Marie Archibald on May 19, 1931 in Heber City. The union was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He worked as a shift boss and foreman for the United Park City Mines. He retired after 43 years in 1976. During slow periods here, he worked on mining near Ogden and in Montana. He lived for a time in Park City, where daughter Audrey (Mrs. James Marcellin ) was born. Audrey Marcellin said her father didn't say much about changes in Park City, but he did have an opinion about the closing of the mines. "He died with emphysema, which he attributed to his mining. He said he wouldn't change anything in his life. But he was glad when the mines shut down so young men wouldn't suffer what he did," she said. Horrocks is survived by his wife, Heber City; children, Glen (Duchesne); Mrs. Yuleta Gines (Heber City); Mrs. James (Audrey) Marcellin (of Park City); Jim, Terry (both of Lyman, Wyoming); siblings Glen Horrocks, Russell Horrocks, Mrs. Stanley (Pearl) Rhodes (Heber City) and Arthur Horrocks (Orem); 20 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday at the Heber 8th Ward Chapel. Burial was in Heber City. |
