Unless otherwise noted, events listed below will take place in Salt Lake DANCE Repertory Dance Theatre will debut four works in "Premieres Contemporary '84" Nov. 9-10, 8 p.m. at the Capitol Theatre, 50 West Second South. I MOVIES "Yojimbo," playing at the Salt Lake City Library on Nov. 8, stars Toshiro Mifune as a wandering snmurai who becomes involved in a small-town war between two corrupt gangs. If the plot sounds familiar, it's the same story used for a guy named Clint Eastwood in the spaghetti Western "Fistful of Dollars." Admission is $2.50 for the film, part of the Akira Kurosawa Festival. Showtime is 7 p.m. The library is at 209 East 500 South. At the Blue Mouse: "The Fourth Man" is a blend of beauty, pomo and high-style horror; "A Boy and His Dog," from the Harlan Ellison novella, shows post-nuclear desert dwellers and the bizarre underground kingdom of Topeka; "A Girl From Lorraine" shows a woman's struggle for integrity when she moves to Paris; and "Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex" stars Woody Allen as a cowardly sperm, Gene Wilder as a man infatuated with a sheep and John Carradine as the creator of a King Kong best. The Mouse is at 260 East 100 South. "Queen Christina" stars Greta Garbo as a monarch who forsakes the throne for her lover, played by John Gilbert. It plays on Friday, Nov. 9, at the Salt Lake City Library, as part of their Garbo Festival. Showtimes are at 2 p.m. (for 25 cents) and 7 p.m. (for 50 cents). At the Utah Media Center, "West Side Story" brings together Stephen Sondheim's memorable songs, Leonard Bernstein's jazzy score, and Jerome Robbins' stylish choreography. Awarded the Best Picture Oscar for 1961, the film plays on Nov. 9 (7 p.m.), Nov. 10 (5 and 9:30 p.m.) and Nov. 11 (7 p.m.). The Hitchcock Festival also continues with the apocalytic horror film "The Birds" starring Rod Taylor, Tippi Hedren, Jessica Tandy and Suzanne Pleshette. It plays on Nov. 9 (9:30 p.m.), Nov. 10 (7:30 p.m.) and Nov. 11 (5:30 and 9:30 p.m.). Admission is $2.50 for a single film or $3.50 for the double feature. All films are shown in the auditorium of the Salt Lake Art Center, 20 South West Temple. The cowboy appears as larger-than-life hero in "Shane." Alan Ladd plays the gunman who protects a farm family (Van Heflin, Jean Arthur, young Brandon de Wilde) against the villain (Jack Palance at his nastiest). It plays at the Salt Lake Art Center on Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. MUSIC Singer-actor Rick Springfield plays the Salt Palace on Nov. 8, 7:30 p.m. Also featured is Tommy Shaw. Reserved tickets, at $12.50, are available at the Palace, ZCMI, Special Events Center, Tape Head and Disc Jockey Records. Bobby Vinton sings at the Celebrity Showroom, 139 East South Temple, Nov. 8-10. The Statler Brothers, named Vocal Group of the Year nine times, . will play the. Special Events Center on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m. Reserved seats, at $12.50, are available at the Center, ZCMI stores and Tape Head. Perhaps the Sixties' greatest folk artists, Peter, Paul and Mary, will appear at Symphony Hall on Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. Tickets $15 and $12.50 are on sale at the Capitol Theatre and Datatix outlets. THEATRE Anton Chekhov's classic play "The Seagull" plays at the Babcock Theatre at the University of Utah on Nov. 8-10 and 14-17 at 8 p.m. Matinees on Nov. 13 and 17 are at 2 p.m. "What I Did Last Summer" focuses on a boy's choosing between materialism and idealism during the summer of 1945. A.R. Gumey's play will be presented Nov. 7-10 at the Lab Theatre 'Performing Arts Building) at the University of Utah. "The Death and Life of Sneaky Fitch" is a Western farce about the resurrection of the most unsavory character in Gopher Gulch. It plays Thursday through Sunday at 8 p.m. through Nov. 18. Admission is $5, general, and $4.50, students. It is presented by the No-Name Players at the Lincoln School, Eighth South and 945 East. Neil Simon's "Star Spangled Girl" looks at the romance between a conservative Olympic champion who moves in next to a radical writer. It plays Wednesday-Saturday through Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m. A Nov. 10 matinee is at 2 p.m. at the Little Bowery Theater of Promised Valley Playhouse, 132 South State. Pioneer Memorial Theater presents "Amadeus," which asks, "Was Mozart murdered?" Prime suspect: Antonio Salieri, the devout but mediocre musician jealous of Mozart's genius. It plays nightly, except Sundays, through Nov. 14 at 8 p.m. A Nov. 10 matinee plays at 2 p.m. Join "Mr. Roberts" on the stage of Promised Valley Playhouse, 132 South State. The show stars James Cash and character actor Harry Carey Jr. as the nasty, palm tree-loving captain. It plays Wednesday-Saturday Wednesday-Saturday through Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m. Beth Henley's "Crimes of the Heart" deals with the crises of the three McGrath Sisters. Presented by Walk-Ons at Theatre 138 (138 South Second East), it plays Thursday-Saturday through Nov. 10 at 8 p.m. ETCETERA The Kimball Art Center wil hold its Sixth Annual Art Auction on Saturday, Nov. 10. Reservations are $15 per person. The silent auction (6-7 p.m.). is followed by the live auction, 7-9 p.m. Larrv and Sharlene Christensen. watercolorists, have an exhibit in the Main Gallery of Park City's Kimball Art Center. "Once Upon a Starry Night" at Hansen Planetarium, 15 South State, plays weekdays (11 a.m., 2, 4:30 and 7 p.m.), Saturdays (2, 4:30 and 7) and Sundays ( 2 and 4 : 30 p.m . ) . The children's show "Zoom a Little Zoom" plays at Hansen at 11 a.m. Saturday, followed by "Science Sorcery" at 11:45 a.m. "Grace Under Pressure," a laser-light presentation of Rush's newest album, plays Thursday at 8:30 p.m. and Friday-Saturday at 9:45 and 11 p.m. General admission is $4, with $3 for children under 12senior citizens. Laserium also presents Pink Floyd in "Dark Side of the Moon." ft plays Friday (8:30) Saturday (3 and 8:30) and Sunday (3 p.m.). The Utah Jazz face the Golden State Warriors on Nov. 9 and the Dallas Mavericks on Nov. 12. Games are at 7 :30 at the Salt Palace. The Palace is scheduled to hold a cat show on Nov. 10, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children.
