Show Woodside, Park Avenue set for one-way traffic . by Christopher Smart Public W orks Director Jerry Gibbs unveiled his new snow removal , . program calling for one-way traffic I , V oa, upper Park .Avenue, . and upper Woodside Avenue at a Nov. 1 city council work session. Gibbs told the council that a number of factors led to his decision to request the one-way scheme. Snow storage potential along the streets has been reduced, he said, partly because some property owners don't want the city pushing snow onto their property. According to Gibbs, the city now will haul snow from the Woodside and Park Avenue areas south of 8 th street and Heber Avenue, respectively. respect-ively. The roadways are not wide enough for two-way traffic and loading equipment, he said. Gibbs said he has not determined which direction the one-way route will run. The one-way direction on Park Avenue will be opposite to that on Woodside Avenue, he said. No action is necessary by the city council on the plan, Gibbs said. The chief of police has the authority to make the one-way designation. Gibbs said that Police Chief Frank Bell has indicated he will support the plan: The one-way scheme would be in effect only during The winter months, Gibbs said. The municipality is budgeted to spend $158,000 on snow removal this winter. Last winter the city budgeted $100,000 for snow removal but actually spent $164,000, Gibbs said. The snow removal strategy for the coming season will schedule four-man four-man crews, 24 hours a day, Gibbs said. This year each snow plow operator will be assigned a specific route for the entire winter. Gibbs maintains the plan will make snow removal more efficient. Snow will be plowed from Park City's streets according to a new priority system, Gibbs said. The primary snow removal efforts will be focused on the bus routes. When the bus routes have been plowed, snow removal crews will move on to secondary targets and through streets not on the bus route. Lowest on the priority list for snow removal are the dead-end streets and cul-de-sacs. |
