Show Much Improved Miners Lose Two The Park City High School basketball team dropped two tough games last week, but in the process, hope was seen in the form of a light at the end of the tunnel. Let's hope it's not a runaway ore car. The Miners gave 2A power Wasatch all it could handle before swooning at the end of the contest last Friday in Miner Gym. The 72-61 score was an encouragement to Miner coach Bruce Reid, who saw the Wasatch game as a test. If the Miners were blown out, it would have surprised nobody. But they weren't, and that's good news. "I'm encouraged by the improved play after we got shell-shocked in Ogden (by tiny St. Joe's)," Reid said. Chris Cooper chipped in 19 for Park City agains Wasatch Was-atch and Pete Gilvery added 12. The next evening, Wasatch mugged South Summit at home in Heber by 30. Park City lost to Morgan, another 2A school, in overtime 43-37 in Heber that night. That game started slowly for Park City. The Miners were down 10-0 shortly after the outset, but the contest settled into a defensive struggle, with Morgan ahead 22-15 at the half. Again Reid was pleased his team played toughly. He says the play of Tim Tebbs off the bench has earned the youth a start this week against the Intermountain Indian School of Brigham City, a 3A team. Tebbs scored 15 against Morgan. Another pleasing note was Bill Simmons' 11 points against Wasatch. Tebbs will be moved to the Eost, and at 6-foot-1, he will e the largest at the position for the Miners in 34 years, Reid says. , Tom Flinders with six points against Wasatch was, at the post. Chris Cooper has been moving around the floor as a guardsmall forward swing man and should continue to be the Miners' top scoring threat from outside. The Friday game against Intermountain will be at Miner Gym. Following that, Park City will look forward to the 1A opener against South Summit. |
