Show Editorial Let's Get Along While there has been a lot or railing at city officials lately over the beer tax and the proposed historic zone ordinance, let us not make city workers the brunt of all our wrath and snow-plowing jokes. Because, while the snickering is going on, the people who run the city are holing up in City Hall and Marsac and they could be feeling a bit unwanted. But they are wanted - and needed. Laugh if you want to about the plowing, but it is getting done. You may not have your narrow side street plowed as quickly as you might have six years ago, but then again, the city is about six times the size it once was. We on upper Main Street are very pleased that the city is helping us out and we think the city is doing a good job clearing the snow. But it goes further than that. The city is a good place to live, in large part, because the people who work for local government give a damn. Sometimes, that care has been a bone of contention among residents, but must we be walking around town always ready to fight and take people to court? Compromise and understanding lead to friendship. We all are in it together up here and if we don't like it, we can always leave. City workers and citizens alike don't want to see the city go down the drain, that's why we are all fighting. The solutions are difficult to come by. Look at what we do have. We have history, the beauty of nature, a library, a free bus system, skiing, hiking, good restaurants, happy people and damn good schools. There's much more. Maybe it's time for everyone to take a step back, look around and smell the roses a little bit. Christmas is coming, and we think there is no better place to spend it in the whole world than Park City. --JH |
