Show r- i.. ii i t liAMHlMBHHiBM Summer in the city... Snow or no, there are certain unmistakable signs You have noticed, perhaps, that everyone seems to be walking these days, but none of (hose people you recognize. Ah, how soon we forget. Welcome back the participants to the Institute of Fitness held out at Prospector Square. Walking to shed those unwanted pounds on those who have wintered well, this year's group has a special motivation. Sources tell me that the meals for the group this year are being prepared by Shannon's restaurant. Smart ,,r thinking guys! I'd walk from Kimball Junction into town for a meal there! Good signs of summer are the constant convention business at the Holiday Inn. It's the only place in town I feel compelled to order a plastic name tag as an appetizer. From cop conventions to corporate groups these folks are bringing us much appreciated summer guests. Another sign of the season (that is summer in the mountains) is the withered (actually frozen) impatiens in my yard. Jumping the ' mountain zone gun I though maybe it would be alright to plant some flowers on Memorial Day. Alas, I should have taken my que from the flower's name... The first weekend in June traditionally means the annual Tony awards on Broadway. (How in the world am I going to give this a Park City tie-in?) This year the first presenter on stage was none other than our own part-time Parkite Hal Linden. (Whew.) Hal looked like he would have benefited greatly from bringing his glasses along. I was reminded of his line at the gala opening of the Egyptian Theatre when he did finally pull out his glasses to read the cards, "Thank God," he said, "it's the eyes that go first." Hal was in good company, however; most all of the celebs reading cards would have benefited form slightly larger print. Honest. (There is no truth to the rumour Park City Performances will produce "Dreamgirls" for the next season.) In other theatre related news on the local front (you knew this was coming "Cabaret" wraps up it's run at the Egyptian this weekend. Never before have so many worn so little (on stage that is) in Park City. In keeping with the show's wonderfullyr decadent theme Thursday night will be drag night. All those dressed as what they're not will get in for half price. And while we're on the subject of the show let's add a full count of applause for Susan Jarman in her directorial debut with this show. A tough production for her first time out and Susan gave this a professional qualitv. Nice .work. The outlook for the weekend promises to warmer than last and that should strike a vein with most of us. I hesitate to say I plan to try planting again, but if we don't get those little seeds in the ground soon I'm afraid they will sprout all on their own in the kitchen drawer. .. Have a summerlike weekend! |
