Show Fire District Report For the first time in about 6 months, there were no fire calls for the week of 531 to 67. Training has begun to take on more direction toward wildland fires and use of hand tools in - firefighting. As the summer months approach, we are all faced with increased fire danger in the hills and backcountry around Park City. Most of the areas of the district are restricted in allowing open burning (this includes open campfires), but with the increased use we anticipate the potential for rangefire is a very real possibility. The Salt Lake City fire department graduated from a 350-man volunteer force to an official city department in 1883. The force consisted of 4 wagons, 1 aerial truck, 2 steam engines, 1400 feet of hose, 30 horses and 64 firemen. Fire department officials described a new metropolitan steam engine (where steam pressure was used to drive a water pump for the hoses) as "one of our modern fire extinquishers which stands ready for service on a second's notice." no-tice." There are 28 members present for training on June 7. -' - ; ' - " 1 |
