Show Park Ave. Repair Bids Opened W.W. and W.B. Gardner Co., a Salt Lake construction firm is expected to be awarded the contract to repair the deteriorating Park Ave road surface. According to Community Development Director Mike Vance, Gardner's Gard-ner's low bid was $123,885, significantly below city estimates esti-mates of $194,000. Vance said $13,667 in additional asphalt treatment has been added to the contract plus the paving of the Heber and Park Ave intersection near the Kimball Art Center. "The total cost of the work will be around $140,000," Vance said, "Which is still $50,000 below our estimates." esti-mates." The Park Ave thoroughfare was completely replaced last fall but structural engineering engineer-ing deficiencies causes it to begin falling apart less than two months later. Bush and Gudgell. the Salt Lake firm that designed the street has assumed a certain portion of the blame for the road failure and has agreed to pay $100,000 of the cost of repairs. Additionally, $30,000 of the cost will be paid by the state 'which leaves Park City taxpayers responsbile for only a mini- . mal portion of the total bill. The work, which will begin June 14 and be completed July 2, involves overlaying the crumbling roadway with six inches of new asphalt. Although the road's problem pro-blem lies in a defecient sub-base, Ed Nurse, a specialist on road, failures retained by the city to study the problem, has indicated the overlay is adequate to prevent further damage to the street. Gardner was one ..of four companies to submit bids and their $123,886 estimate compares with the high bid ,that came in at $167,400. The contract should be officially awarded by the City Council at their regularmeet-ing regularmeet-ing this Thursday. |
