V......V.,.:' ' ''v. 1 .'. . , l J' pCSS&u"' '' jji Last Sunday, here in Park City was the offical opening of the 31st Western Regional Convention of the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) Over 600 individual agents from as far away as Lima, Peru arrived to spend four fun packed days discussing discus-sing the travel business in general and Park City's potential specifically. Most stores on MAIN Street came alive on Sunday to host an Open House for the visitors. Highlights were the walking tours by Bea Kamner spon-sered spon-sered by the Preservation Society, Sunn Classics live fiddlers and square dancers, and the Park Record's very own wine and cheese party. Govenor Scott Matheson was the keynote speakeer at was the keynote speaker at a special banquet hosted by the local ASTA committee. The dinner was the first "event in the tent" for Park City's new yellow and white striped acquisition. Special activities schduled for this week included a Trade show at Prospector Convention Center, daily seminars from various travel related institutions, a golf tournament and much sight seeing. The conclusion Wednesday, Wed-nesday, Ernie and the general's rodeo followed by a beer bust and BBQ at the resort. Special recognition should go to chairwomen Laura Thomas, assistant Marketing Director ' of Park City Ski Area who (along with a cast of dozens) worked long and hard for this successful week.
