Show i. EDITORIAL Preserve Our Past It would probably be an understatement to say that Park City is presently experiencing growth unparallel in it's history, and it appears this rapid growth in building will continue at a fast pace in the months and years ahead. Growth is inevitable, particularly in a tourist-oriented town such as Park City. But we feel that equally as important as growth is here, so is preserving our rich heritage. Preserving our history is essential if we are to maintain a meaningful balance between "old'' and "new" Park City. Tourists and newer residents do not want to be in a town that has a hollow frame. What Park City needs now, possibly more than at any other time in the past, is a permanent collection of historic documents and relics. And we feel the Miners Hospital would be an ideal structure in which to house the town's history One auspicious location for the building is near the proposed Depot project where it would be easily accessible to locals and tourists, not to mention the possible impact on Main Street, an area that must be carefully and thoughtfully preserved. We urge city officials to take the necessary steps as soon as possible to insure that Park City doesn't create a hollow frame, but rather to look to the future by preserving our past. |
