Show LIGHTNING STRUCK -POWER HOUSES According to Manager Joseph Bailey of the Ogden Rapid Transit company, it will cost about ?400 to repair the damage that was done to the power plant smokestack by the lightning About ten feet of the upper portion of Ihe stack was torn away by Hie lightning bolt and. In order to rebuild the shattered top. heavy and costly scaffolding will have to be erected. If is the scaffolding that will call for the greatest outlay. The damage done to Ihe generators at Willard Is quite expensive, but the company has not determined just what the amount will be. Tho work of repairing the damaged electrical apparatus will occupy several days but will not interfere to any noticeable extent with the regular traffic of the lines. The smokestack of the local powerhouse power-house was struck about 7 o'clock last eveninc. Luckily no one was passing at the time, although two of the workmen a few minutes before the occurrence were standing at the le of the stpek conversing about the storm which had just broken. A hoavj bolt of lightning struck in the close vicinity of the station and blew out the big transformers on tho side of the building, putting the plant entirely out of commission The Ogden street cars are operated in part by power obtained from the Willard plant, about :,no horsepower horse-power being used n day. This supply was consequently cut off from Ogden by the pccldent to the transformers. It will be several dayB before the damage can be fully repaired at the j Willard plant. j |
