Show DAVIS TOMATO CANNERIES BEGIN SEASON'S WORK. Kaysvllle, Aug 12.- The tomato canneries throughout Davis county will commence operations tor this season sea-son today and the prospects for a bumper crop of the product this year are hright. The fact that the crop of tomatoes In Davis county is ripening ripen-ing about two weeks ahead of the usual us-ual time Is looked upon by the growers grow-ers and packers as an indication of a phenomenal yield per acre. Usually the crop Is affected by the early fall frosts In ripening. The damage of frost this year Is eliminated, as tho fruit will all be gathered before the nights become cold enough to do any domage. From the start of the canning can-ning there will be three weeks of ripening weather. The crop Is In excellent ex-cellent condition The canneries are paying the farmers $10 per Ion for the tomatoes, $2 per ton more than formerly. ' |
