Show THE LAKE AND THE CUT-OFF. The' Southern Pacific has 300 men employed in strengthening tho embankments on the cut-off across Great Salt Lake and this force will be kept at work for four months moro. The work now being done is between Promontory Point and the east side of the ' lake, a distance of sixteen miles. When the last car of boulders has been dumped, Supt. Rowlands says the Ogden-Lucin cut-off will stand the wear of the waves and wind without further repair. Within the last few mouths the water of the lake has fallen 13 inches. The fall in the lake and the pouring- in of tons of rock along-the along-the "fill" have combined to rob the storms on the lake of their de-structiveness. |
