Enthusiasm for It? Yes, enthusiasm Tho goal of the Socialist Is that Foclfli Order io which the, aspirations of all noble jnlods, since history began be-gan to bo recorded, shall cense to be u aspiration, and shall become a re2llty. Tho aspiration may bo condensed con-densed Jn the verification and practice prac-tice of tho command: "Do unto others oth-ers as you would be done to" la (be now oral rule of man's actions. Such a rule of conduct does not exist today. to-day. In so far the Socialist opposes, condemns, strives to overthrow th present Socialist Order, and, without a doubt, will see his striving crowned w!th successes For all that the So-c So-c lalist dotes upon, Is actually enthusiastic enthusi-astic over tho "present world." Aud with good reason. DAYS IN THE MANGER. Although the "i-iesent world" differs dif-fers from former ones only In the method of human suffering; although, accordingly, tho "present world" is essentially the same as "previous worlds" in that its system is pivoted upon Class Rule: although all this h true. yet. nevertheless, the "present world" differs from all previous ones In ono all-Important particular It h the first "world" from which the attainment at-tainment of the Socialist world N possslble. Impossible was the attainment attain-ment under the patriarchal sysrem: impossible was Its attainment under the succeeding, tho feudal system. Under neither was as yet the material mate-rial foundation laid tor the rearing of the social structure whose practice could, be "Po unto others as you would be done to." That material basis Is furnished by the "present world," the world of capitalism. The i-hyslcal capacity for the plent Ifnlnes of production that can afford to all assured physical well being, Is the boon bestowed uwn mankind by capitalism cap-italism Socialism proposes to profit by tho boon; the "Post" class proposes pro-poses the Impossible scheme of be ing allowed to play the role of "dogs In the manger" in perpetuity. Tiich is why the Socialist dearly loves the "present world," and why the "Post" class Is the one tha' should detest it. Capitalism makes Socialism certain Weekly Teoplo. THE APPEAL CONDEMNING ITSELF. Tn the Appeal to Reason, July 1C. the following news Item Is reported: , "Engaged In a game of bathing Milt baseball with President Sam Gompers, Secretary Frank Morrison and other leaders of the A. F. of on the beach this morning, John Mitchell, former head of the Mine Workers' Vnlon, lost a $1,000 diamond ring presented to him by his admirers admir-ers after the settlement of tho big PennsjlvanU , coal strike. Captain Jirorge. Herke, a veteran life guard, lound the ring, whereupon Mitchell lecled a hundred dollar bill from a mil h? tarried in Mi pocket and hand-e hand-e l It to the captain as a reward for his find," The Appeal has quite a comment 3n this dispatch. It says that "when .nbnr lenders lose thousand dollar lings and perl off hundred dollar ;i)ls it Is time for wage slaves to l.nko a tumid"."' The paper states further that It would be Interesting t-i know who the admirers in question ques-tion are; It calls attention to tho tact that Robbins, the Pennsylvania coal operator, and others gave Mitchell Mitch-ell a diamond pin, and pays that thla ftyly of labor leaders belong to Iho capitalist class. The Appeal's comment com-ment closes with IHllng tho workers -.-t-j-j- --: r-.. .-r -:-.-.-.-i-i-: to stop blindly following alleged lenders, lend-ers, aud there Its "advice" cuds. THE POSSIBILITY OF A JOHN MITCHELL. The Appeal sayt the dispatch .already .al-ready quoted Is interesting. To the thinking reader the Appeal's comment com-ment Is more Interesting. On the first pge of-the same issue the Appeal says, Socialism makes no fight o.i the Individual, but holds that when tho eystem which narrows the Individual Individ-ual and compels him to do things that are essentially Immoral Is ended In complete INDUSTRIAL GOVERNMENT GOVERN-MENT these individuals will be lifted to a higher stat or moral and spiritual spir-itual development that will be of untold un-told benefit to them." If this be iruo In regard to one phase of cipitallsrn. why not of another? The A. P. of I- is essentially capitalistic. It is a system within the great system. It is not the creation of John Mitchell, hut he Is the creation of the system as much n? John Rockefeller Is the creation of the "great system." The Appea does not flght the Individual John Rockefeller, nl the Rockefeller system. The Appeal fights the individual indi-vidual John Mitchell, hut upholds tho syptpm that makes John Mitchell posethle. Without the A. F. of I,, pvs-tcm pvs-tcm there would be no John Mitchell disporting themselves et seaside resorts, re-sorts, losing thousand dollar diamonds dia-monds and ghing up hundred dollar Mils nt the expense of the workers, lint this self same system draws Its sustenance daily from the Appeal and its army. The Appeal has contributed Its share toward making the fat roll that Mitchell carried at Atlantic City. Ignominy the Real Issue. The "Appeal ' and every S. P. pnper published helped create the conditions lhat made it possible for Mitchell to be presented with diamond fines and other "sweet" remembrances. Rerger. Spaxgo, HHlquit, Work, R.irnes and Croebel, together with the other "leaders" "lead-ers" of the S. P., havo lent their support sup-port and influence to tho A. V. of 1 Tho late congress g?vo Indorsement to the "pure and simplors." The s. P. slogan Is, "Join -the union of your CRAFT." S. P. papers carry the indorsement in-dorsement of A. F. of Ty. bodies as their official organ, act as their mouthpiece mouth-piece and espouse thMr cau?e. And the 'Appeal'' Indorses and swallows the whole mess for the sake of a subscription sub-scription list of "a half million." The "Appeal" shows up the corruption of judges, ex-Presidents and tho postal departments, but shies at the "pure and simplers, well knowing that an at-lack at-lack on that sstem would mean the loss of support from the members and sympathizers of the A. F of !,., and result In a "trimming" of that "sub" list. This is th- price of sun-porting sun-porting a system more damnable than the "great system" Itself, in that if keeps tho workers blind to their real interests. Exchange. CURRENT COMMENT.
