Judge Howell Will Race Against Ex-Mayor Ex-Mayor Glasmann Jensen Deposits Depos-its $25 For Duffin to Cover.1 There's only one condition that can dampen tho enthusiasm of the Decoration Decora-tion Day automobile race meet, and that's the weather. Interest gets' a , little hotter every morning. In order to secure safety to the racers not more than three machines ma-chines will be allowed to enter any fast race. Owners Fwho put off to the last minute making entry will probably prob-ably find themselves .Darred on this account. Every precaution will be taken to preent accident. All day long the machines are being tried out on the half-mile track to get acquainted ac-quainted with the curves. The real race of j the .lay promises to be between J. C. Jensen and J. W. DufHn. They have entered the third race for cars costing between $l.oou and $2,000. Jensen's is a 30 horsepower horse-power Cadiallac. Duffin's a 16 horsepower horse-power Bulek. Both are capablo of speed in excess of 50 miles an hour. The race for big cars Is still under fire. Denny Smyth still is proudly defiant. In the parade you will notice not-ice that the pennant colors have been selected with some idea of showing respect to Mr. Smyth. His Packard motor sings a song when under speed that is music to every lover of a good car and it is hoped to hear it in this event. The automobile parade forms on Washington avenue between 25th and 26th streets at 1:30 on Monday. Every Ev-ery owner is expected to have his car in the, parade and to carry tho O. A. C. pennant. The color is dark green with white letters. Get two made. Every morning between 4, and 6 o'clock o'-clock bashful drivers may be seen "trying out." Entry Blank. Glasmann have been Jokingly bantering each other for a race until last evening at the meeting of the association the challenge resulted in the two amateur a.utolsts agreeing to be the principals in an Australian pursuit race, in which the two men in their machines will start at opposite sides of the track, a quarter of a mile apart, and the one overtaking the other in a tivf-mile whirl will be declared the w inner. This pursuit race was selected in view of the fact that each chauffeur is looked look-ed upon by his rival as a dangerous manipulator of the steering gear, and liable to run into auything within loo feet of the point aimed at. Starting at opposite places on the track, there ' will be no danger until the Judgo catches the ex-Mayor or the ex-Mayor attempts to go by the Judge. Then will come the real test. J. C. Jensen has deposited $25 with the Standard to back his challenge to race J. V. Diiflln on Decoration Day at the Fair Grounds. The two men have fast antos and each Is sanguine san-guine he can defeat the other In a contest. To back his determination to rac Mr. Duffin, Mr. Jensen has deposiled his money, awaiting a reply from his rival. |
