Show QUESTION OF CLOSING THEATERS ON SUNDAY The law committee of the city council 16 about ready with Its report on the matter of Sunday closing of theaters and was expected to make Its report at last night's session ot the council. The objection to the operation of theaters on Sunday was made two weeks ago by Juvenile Judge Volney C. Gunnell, and was later seconded by a number of the ministers of the city. The crusade against "Sunday theaters the-aters was prompted, as explained by Judge Gunnell in his petition to the council, by observing many young people who flock to the playhouses Sunday nights, when. If no such places of amusement were open, they would probably attend church. Judge Gunnell Gun-nell thinks that the council should act In the matter and close all the-' the-' titers on the Sabbath, under the state law which prohibits unnecessary labor ' on that day. f Just what the report of the commit-- commit-- tee will be has not been announced, but should a favorable report be sub-f sub-f mitted considerable opposition will bo offered against its adoption by some o! the councilmen, who expressed themselves as unfavorable to the pe- tltlon when It was first presented. |
