Show ing there was no reason why he could not resign with a clear record, etc. POSTMASTER GLASMANN BOUNCED FOR ATTEMPTING TO AID THE REPUBLICAN RE-PUBLICAN PARTY May Be a Fake Story, But Glasmann Smiles and Says His Was a - - Good Cause. It will be remembered that charges were filed against Mr. Glasmann that hn advised the Ogdeu employes of the postoffice to contribute to the Republican Repub-lican campaign fund. Mr. Glasmann admitted that he had made the recommendation rec-ommendation but did not know it was a violation of the civil service mips. He was informed that in view of the fact that he had simply made the suggestion sug-gestion and did not collect any campaign cam-paign contributions the matter would be excused. Monday the local secretary sec-retary of tho civil service commls- slon, Mr Frank J3. Clavton, received a letter containing the following, as a part of the report of the civil service ser-vice commission: "An Investigation was made in June, 1908, of charges against William Glasmann, Glas-mann, postmaster at Ogden, Utah, of soliciting political contributions from the employes in the postottlce, and the commission expressed the opinion to the postoffice department that Mr. Glasmann should be separated from the service. The deportment accordingly accord-ingly called for the resignation of Mr. Glasmann on November 11, li0S, Very respectfully. (Signed), C. S. Snyder, secretary." Mr.. Glasmann says the foregoing was the first Information he had received re-ceived that the civil service commission commis-sion made any such recommendation. If. he had been notified of the matter, mat-ter, he never would have resigned as he is perfectly willing to have been removed for recommending to the employees em-ployees to contribute to the Republican Repub-lican campaign. Mr. Glasmann says he believes oven now the report Is an error as he has not yet received an official report of the matter, neither has he received any request for his resignation from the . department. When it does come he promises to make it public in full. Mr. Glasmann says the only official correspondence ho has regarding his resignation is the letter from Washington Wash-ington published some time ago stat- |
