Show M TO ' SHERIFF Charles L Price, Tells of Hailing $2,409 to N Ogden Portland, March 25. Claud V. Wells, who was arrested some weeks ago in Taeorua and brought to this city to answer to a charge or participating partici-pating in the East Side bauk robbery, December 14 last, confessed today to Sheriff Robert L, Steens. Wells was theu taken before the state circuit court, where he pleaded guilty. In consideration of his having been instrumental in-strumental In procuring the return ot part of the stolen money, Wells was sentenced to Indeterminate imprisonment imprison-ment In the penitentiary lor Horn one to seven years. Wells, in his confession, maintained that he was not one of those who actually robbed the bank, but that he stood outside and was givon $5.iuu of the loit Ho says he stayed in Portland several days, during which time he changed several $100 bills, it was one of these which directed suspicion sus-picion toward him. From here he went to Ogden, mailing before his departure $2,400 as third class matter, mat-ter, directed lo Charles L. Price, At Ogden he applied lor the mail, but suspected something was wrong from the postofliee clerk s actions and ran out of the postottice. Jle went to Wood's Cross, then back to Ogden and Salt Lake; from there to Mutte and Helena, next to Seattle, finally winding wind-ing up at Tacoma, where he was arrested. |
