Show BOILED IN THE BATH Tl Wealthy Land Owner Sue-! Sue-! cumbs (o Heart Failure; Flesh Literally Cooked Denver, Jan. 15. John C. Beatty, aged slxty-flve, of Mount Vernon, N. Y., said to be a wealthy land owner, was found dead in a bath tub in which hot watcT was running, late today. As far as known, the body had been In tho water since midnight last night and was literally boiled. In many places the skin had fallen away. It 1-j known that Mr. .Beatty went to his room at 11:30 last night to retire, and the belief Is that he was sirlcken with heart failure while in the bath, and died. Tho water had been running into tho tub through the night and day. Mr. Beatty was stopping at the Brown Palace hotel. Having an engagement en-gagement with him this, morning, Attorney At-torney T. J. O'Dountll called at the hotel t'o see Mr. Beatty, but efforts to 1 communicate with his room by tele-' tele-' phone were unsuccessful. Late In the ' afternoon Mr. O'Donnell called again and requested that an effort bo made to gain entrance to Mr. Boatty's room. Tho door was opened and an examination exam-ination of tho room disclosed that tho bed had been unoccupied during tho night, although the covers had ' been ; turned back as If someone bad intend-? intend-? ed to occupy the bed. Further In ves- tigatlon disclosed Mr. Beatty lying in tlin hath tub. which was filled to the overflow pipe and a steady stream was running into the tub from the hot water faucet. - Mr. Beatty, according to Attorney O'Donnell, was born in Belfast, Ireland, Ire-land, slxty-flve years ago, but had been in the United States the greater portion por-tion of his life. He was a veteran of the civil war and had the rank of captain. He was a large land owner, owning much property In Nevada, California, Cal-ifornia, Arizona and Old Mexico About a year ago he disposed of a million and a half acres in Sonoro, Mexico, to a French syndicate. Mr. Beatty1 was Interested in the Irrigation Ir-rigation enterprise In southern California, Cali-fornia, the completion of which is said to have caused the formation of the gallon sea. Ho leaves a widow, one eon and ono daughter. The home residence is at No. 100 Franklin street, Mount Vernon, Ver-non, N. Y. New York, Jan. 15. The narao of John C. Beatty, whose body was found in a bath tub overflowing with hot water in Denver, does not appear in the Mount Vernon N. Y., directory. It was learned, however, that a John C. Beatty, who is a director of tho Colorado River Irrigation company, was interested in irrigation lands in Southern California and Is a resident of New York. This is the company which projected an Imperial Canal irrigation ir-rigation plan. |
