Show SWINDLED BY WHISKEY DEALERS KOHN LIQUOR COMPANY UNFAIRLY UNFAIR-LY DEALT WITH. Clever Eastern Schemers Who Obtain $15,000, When Caught Are Willing Will-ing to Settle on Any Terms. Telegraphic dispatches were received receiv-ed from Now York today In relation to tho alleged whiskey swindle involving in-volving the Kohu Liquor company of this city, to the effect that the perpetrators perpe-trators are under arrest and that tha probability is the matter will bo settled set-tled satisfactorily. Either tho whiskey purchased will be delivered to Mr. Kohn or tho money paid by him will be returned. Stuart M. Kohn, who Is a son of Mr. Kohu of this city and Is now practicing prac-ticing law in New York city, is handling han-dling the case and assures his father that the mattor will be adjusted to his satisfaction. As stated In tho morning papers, tho deal Involves a purchase of a largo amount of vory fine whiskey from a concern operating under tho name of tho Mountain Dow Whiskey Co., whose distilleries wero alleged to be located in Kentucky and Ohio. The amount quoted in tho morning dispatches dis-patches was $1500. This Is an error, the real amount being In tho neighborhood neigh-borhood of $15,000. According to the facts as learned today, Mr. Kohn was offered what ho considered a big bargain In fine whiskey. whis-key. So good did tho deal seem, that the local merchant took advantage ot the offer to tho extent of the above-named above-named sum. According to tho contract con-tract agreed upon with the whiskey agent, $10,000 was paid over in cash, the balance to be paid in 30 days. It is stated that Instead of waiting tho entire 30 days, the purchaser completed complet-ed the payment In fifteen days. After encountering suspicious actions ac-tions on the part of the whiskey house when an Installment of the liquor purchased pur-chased was ordered delivered, Mr. Kohn Instituted an Investigation with the result that the members of tho ! flim selling the goods were arrested j upon complaint of Stuart Kohn in New I York. Five barrels of whiskey are now at the freight depot, presumably of Inferior In-ferior grade, and sent on by the alleged al-leged dealers in whiskey to appease the wrath of Mr. Kohn. |
