Show I- PEACHES AT 60 CENTS A BOX Buyers arc in the Ogden market, contracting early peaches at 60 cents a box. This compares most unfavorably with' $1:50 a box j a year ago. No figures are being offered on Elbertas. AVhen questioned on the low prices, the agents announce that the "market for fruits has been almost destroyed by the prohibitive' price "and the scarcity of sugar. . The big demand for peaches in the past has been in preserving. "With sugar at 25 cents to 30 cents a pound, preserving is made almost impossible. Fruit men should call oh the department of agriculture to pro mote-a campaign, instructing the housewives of the country how to preserve peaches and other products of the orchard and garden without with-out the use of sugar. |
