Show SALUTE TO EACH STATE ECHOES UP AND DOWN RHINE COBLEXZ, Friday, July 4 A salute i of 48 guns one for each state in the union flashed out over Coblenz St noon today from the ancient Mo-1 selle valleys as the first part of the ; anv's program in celebrating the . fourth in Germany. This was the first time that American Ameri-can artillery has barked from the famous fa-mous fortress which tops the four-I four-I hundred foot rock promontory on the i east bank of the Rhine opposite the point where the oselle joins Ger-1 many's mo6t famous rivar. The sa- 1 lute was fired from 75's of the Seventeenth Sev-enteenth field artillery and the roar of the same guns was heard before by G-erman-s who opposed the Second division di-vision at St Mihiel, in the Charn-papne Charn-papne and in the Argonne.
