Show 1MB KEEPS DAVIS FROM SCORING 111 GAME SATURDAY Ogdcn high school won its first victory vic-tory of tho year on Saturday when a scoro of 7 to 0 was scored against Davis county high school. The game was interesting and hard fought, the Ogden boys being unable to weaken the Davis team after tho initial score. The ball was carried through for the only touchdown of tho contest by Richards, Ogden's star halfback. A large crowd witnessed the game. Tho next contest for the local boys will be with the East Side team in Salt Lake, this being the first game away from home or the season, except the skirmish skirm-ish with the Aggies. Both teams seemed to be matched perfectly In tho contest Saturday. The Davis county boys had plenty of fighting fight-ing spirit and at no stage of tho game stopped trying but the Ogden men were a little too clever and handled their machine tactics a little better. ! Ogden has virtually a new team and all who sav the first game of the season sea-son will vouch for this. The tackling has Improved, the interference and lino work has Improved and the boys seem to be developing that rare old lighting spirit which carries them to victory. The work of Richards, Ogden's Og-den's left halfback, was the exhibition of the game. This boy plays football in an entirely individual manner. He is primarii a fighter. Added to that ho is skilled and uses his head. Ho ca-'rles just sufficient weight to make him formidable and Is pretty speedy. Swan Davis Star The stir workhorse of the Davis linkup was R. Swan, right halfback. This youth time and again was given the ball when gains were wanted and he usually negotiated his share. Davis made more yards by long dashes than did Ogden and R. Swan usually carried the pigskin. The Davis team chose the west goal and kicked to Ogden. The ball went over after a few preliminary line plunges. Davis punted after failure to make ground and Ogden again lost the hall after futile line bucks. A few variouc plays and Ogden had tho ball on Davis' twenty-yard line. Erwln then gained ten yards and the ball was in dangerous territory. Ogden fumbled fum-bled the ball on the next play but luckily recovered it on the five-yard line. Davis tightened up but could not prevent a touchdown and Richards carried the ball over the line. Miller kicked goal. The score was 7 to 0. Second Period Ogdn received a punt from Davis at the opening of the second period from the forty-yard line. A few plays resulted in minor gains. Davis gradually grad-ually worked the ball to its own five-yard five-yard line but was held tightly by the Ogden eleven and the ball went over, Ogden then started a march down the field and gain after gain was piled up against Davis. When the ball was finally fi-nally worked to Ogden's ten-yard line and" things looked good for a touchdown touch-down the pistol announced the end of the half. This was a big disappointment disappoint-ment because the crowd was on edge fur another touchdown. In the remaining two periods the ball was worked back and forth with little sensational playing on either side. Ogden Og-den successfully worked a couple of forward passes but at no stage of the game was either team again in danger dan-ger of scoring. The lineup: Ogden Davis R. Conroy L.E Adams Reeder R.
