A week ago we may have HB thought that peace was near but now this thought is changed and another coining home to us with a great force, isTthat the conflict will go on indefln-Kft indefln-Kft itely. But this is sure brothers and . sisters, 'we are in the war' and. must ' fSV'0 our par -o 'in- No man under- Kmpt to show this afternoon why the fjB American government is right in en-yH en-yH tering the war, for It is right HJB' ."America and its allies are fighting t not the German people. The German jB Imperial government is wrong because it. has subjugated civic and intellectual life to military power and the Ameri-can Ameri-can government to its civic Idealism. Autocracy is a government based on the will of a king Democracy is a 9H government based oh the will of the people. Germany is an autocracy. Am-erica, Am-erica, a democracy. Which will win? The question is easily answered. How tH long it will take we do not know, but ' the final victory will be ours. But we must learn the lesson of simplicity; go back to the simple, honest life, dis card the love of wealth that seems to be guiding the desires of men and acknowledge ac-knowledge the great truth 'that man finds his best self In service to God and his fellow men. "It is glorious to know that Utah has again gone beyond its quota of ption to the liberty loan, to know subscription to the liberty bonds, to know that this state of 400,000 people Is again in the lead as it always has been when a question of loyalty to our government was concerned. The Mormon Mor-mon people are good Americans be-' cause our religion is like unto the constitution con-stitution of the United States in that it sets forth the declaration that afli men are created free and equal. The gospel of Christ teaches the same things as our national constitution, only on-ly with the higher law of responsibility responsibil-ity to God. The two therefore, go, hand in hand and this will be the great factor in the winning of the war." |
