Four prominent American women, Urs. William K Vanderbilt, Mrs. Edith Wharton, Mrs. Harry Payne Whitney and Mrs. Bordon Turner, havo been so distinguished. Lieut. William Thaw and sub-Lieut. Raoul Lufbery, of the Lafayette Escadrillo, havo both been several times honored, and Major Charles S.veeney it the French foreign legion has been awarded the Legion of Honor and the Croix de Guerre.
