A few days previous a thief had stol- en one of the automobiles and had i abandoned it when chased by a police officer. It is the belief of Mr, Carpenter Carpen-ter that the auto bandit or one of his ring sot fire to the garage for revenge, since there was no heater or other apparatus around the building to pro-, ducc a Are. ! Last week the garage of A. W. Col- llnson, department manager for Keith-1 O'Brien company, living at 1763 South, Ninth East street, was burned under equally mysterious circumstances, Tho Are department reported tho origin of the blaze as unknown. Other fires have broken out in private garages in the neighborhood recently, some of which were extinguished by owners who did not call out the department. According to Mr. Carpenter tho po- lice will be asked to detail men to run dowu and punish the supposed incendiaries. |
