Show EARL FELT PLEASED WITHCiP KEARNY Geprge Shorten, city health oflicer, has received a letter from Earl Felt, a former employe of that department. He is now with Battery B. encamped at Camp Kearny, Calif. He states that the camp exceeds the expectations of he men when they left Ft. Douglas to locate there. His letter reads: "Camp Kearny, Oct 22. "Mr. George Shorten, Dear Friend: We are at last located at Camp Kearny and like our quarters very well. It Is much better than we expected. Here we have a first class kitchen, bathhouse bath-house and electric lights, in addition to what we had in Salt Lake. We also have a Y. M. C. A. here, which af-rords af-rords us much amusement "There are several thousand soldiers here and more expected to come. A number of tho drafted men from Camp Lewis have just arrived. Some of them will come to our battery until they can find or arrange a place for them. I haven't seen them yet, but they say some of our Ogden men are among them. I hope they get good treatment from all the boys, because you know how a drafted man is looked upon by an enlisted man. "We are located 12 miles from San Diego, which is tho closest town from here. So you see, we do not get away from camp quite so often as we did while in Salt Lake. Just twice or three times a week are we permitted to leave camp, but that is enough. "How are all the boys at the office? Give them my best wishes, as well as the Mayor and commissioners. Will write again when I get a little time and let you know of our movements." oo |
