Show COAL SHORTAGE CANNOT BE OVERCOME Mi THE PEOPLE OF OGDEN FILE COMPLAINTS The committee of three men. appointed ap-pointed to take steps to relieve tho coal situation in Ogden, report that they are unable to do much because of the failure of the people to respond to their request for co-operation. The committee, commit-tee, composed of Dr. E. M. Conroy, chairman, S. T. Wittaker and Thos. G. Burt, asked tho peoplo of Ogden to report to them in writing four facts concerning the fuel shortage. They desire to ascertain Just how much coal there is in the city, how many orders previously placed have not been filled, how, many have been filled, wholly or in part, and how much coal It will require re-quire to supply tho needs of the city from now until March 1. Dr. Conroy reports that very fow people have sent the information. While many have stated over the phone that they did not have coal and were unable to get it, they have failed fail-ed to mall tho statistics to the committee. com-mittee. This committee wants to be prepared prepar-ed to go to W. W. Armstrong, in charge of the situation for the entire slate, with the exact statistics on the needs j of Ogden. They want to have a tabulated tab-ulated list of tho homes and business houses in need of coal. "We want tho people back of us," Dr. Conroy stated. "That is tho only way we can got relief. If we speak in generalities, we will be answered in the same manner. If we have exact figures, fig-ures, we will be answered In exact terms. When these figures begin to como in, wo will have something to work on. There is no reason why Ogden Og-den should be deprived of her proportion propor-tion of the coal being shipped from tho mines and, If the people will stand behind us, I think we can get it "I would like to request, on behalf of the committee of which I am chairman, chair-man, that those In need of coal mall to us today the statistics we have asked. ask-ed. Burt and Bros., at once and wo will do what we can to supply tho much needed coal." Tho committee will meet again this evening at 7:30 in the ofllco of Dr. Conroy, to further their plans for dealing deal-ing with the coal shortage. |
