I ME STEEL WE ! Hi I THE 1 LOd YARDS -A huge steel magnet is being used in the Southern Pacific shops at Og-den Og-den for the purpose of loading and unloading scrap and unloading and i I handling castings to nnd from cars j about the shop grounds. The magnet is applied to a self-propelling crane ' equipped with a 40-Xoot boom. The ; magnet has a lifting capacity of ap-f ap-f proximately 14,000 pounds when 'ap-! 'ap-! plied to material such as a slab with a smooth surface. ' The use of tho magnet is greatly facilitating fa-cilitating the work about the Ogden shops. At present the magnet is working work-ing on old car wheels to the west of the shops. oo
