Show Two"-Killed and Five I Injured When Trains Come Together. j Two men were killed, threo seriously serious-ly injured and two slightly Injured -at '7:15 o'clock this morning when two (trains of the Ogden, Logan & Idaho railroad crashed inio each other near j Fairview, Ida. Brakeman Clevc Hauck, Montpeller, Idaho. Head-on Collision The wreck occured when merchandise merchan-dise extra No. S00 met work" extra No. 517 on tho track near Fairview. Fair-view Fair-view is just a mile and twenty feet north of the Utah line. Number 800 was in charge of Conductor Albert S. i Warner, Motorman Enos Rowland and Brakeman Dwlght V. Reynolds. Num-. I Details of the wreck had not reached Ogden this afternoon Whether the ac-j ac-j cident was caused by negligence on tho part of the train crew or tho dispatcher dis-patcher or other officials of the line was not inferred by officials of the company seen this morning. General Manager W. A. Whitney left at 9 a. m. for Fairview, accompanied by Dr. R. S. Joyce, and should have arrived there between 12 and 1 o'clock. He had communicated no details of the wreck, however, at an early hour. The track in the vicinity of Fairview is perfectly straight for a considerable distance, so officials of tho lino here say that there could have been nothing noth-ing to obstruct tho view of the train crews. The southbound train, No. 517, was "light" having just the electric locomotive. lo-comotive. The entire crew of both trains must have been riding in the locomotives, for the injury and casualty casual-ty list to have been so complete. The merchandise train carried three cars. Manager Whitney went to the scene of the wreck to talk with the injured and any witness who might be found, to place tho responsibility for the accident. ac-cident. It is expected he will remain there during the day although a message mes-sage is expected from him this afternoon. after-noon. Conductor Albert S. Warner, killed, of 330 Twenty-fourth street, is survived by a wife, his mother, Mrs. J. L. Warner, War-ner, four brothers and one sister. He was 28 years old. Body will bo taken to Lindquists' chapel. Brakeman Dwlght V. Roynolds, killed, kill-ed, of 131 Twenty-eighth street is survived sur-vived by a wife and son, Dwight V. Reynolds, Jr. He was 39 years of age. Brakeman George A. Anders has a child. He was among tho seriously injured, Motorman Enos Rowland and Conductor Edgar Cathcart being tho others. Anders of No. 517, died this afternoon at about 1 o'clock from injuries received in tho wreck, making three deaths. Later reports today were to the effect ef-fect that Motorman Enos Rowland had a leg broken and minor bruises, Conductor Cathcart had three ribs broken and minor bruises and the other oth-er two Injured, Motorman Clarance Hawkes and Brakeman Cleve Hauck, received slight scalp wounds. The Injured were all rushed to Logan where they were given attention atten-tion in the hospital. The dead will be brought to Ogden tonight and a coroner's inquest will be held with a member of the state public pub-lic utilities commission present, Mr. Hawkes and Mr. Hauck Informed In-formed the company that they would come on to Ogden tomorrow as they were not Injured enough to prevent their traveling. |
