Show oo CA LL FOR Gill Army Departmental Commanders Com-manders Relieved of Duty of Assigning Troops to Industries. In-dustries. WASHINGTON, Nov. 21. Army departmental de-partmental commanders have been relieved of the duty of assigning troops to guard industries and railroads rail-roads as the first step in the Avar department's de-partment's general plan for co-operating with tho states in a system of internal control during the war that will not drain the fighting forces. Hereafter all requests for guards, either from state authorities or from manufacturers, must be made to the adjutant general's office for reference refer-ence to the militia bureau. Soldiers now doing policemen and watchmen work will be relieved soon so as to supplement men for such duty furnished by the states. The department depart-ment is preparing to organize a special spe-cial force of federal police, semi-mill-tary In character. The new federal force to' be organized organ-ized will approach the constabulary organizations of the slate and will have some of tho disadvantages of a military body. " Old Soldiers Valuable. Detailed plans for the new federal force are under preparation and soon will be ready for execution. Men above the draft age, men exempted because of dependents and others who do not join the fighting armies probably proba-bly will be assembled by voluntary enlistment en-listment to do the work. Old soldiers are expected to prove particularly valuable because of their army training. |
