Show I Becker Ties With I Two Salt Lakers in I Best Shoot of Season, SALT LAKE, March 3. Keen and j interesting competition was witnessed I by a large crowd at the Salt Lake Gun club yesterday. Thirty-seven gunners were on tho firing line and enjoyed one of the best shoots of the season. Weather conditions were ideal and good scores were made. J. E. Eudey, the crack shot from the Bacchus Gun club at Bacchus; G. L. Becker, the vet-eran vet-eran from Ogden, and Dennis Holohan of Salt Lake tied for high gun honors H with the excellent scores of 46 breaks Hr out of 50 targets. Becker distinguished himself by breaking 32 targets straight H and winning the directors long run medal. Holohan was second with 28 straight breaks and received one point on the medal for the season of 1918. H For some reason, the "kaiser" did H not believe in "tailor-mades" and hop- ped out in front of W. H. Mitchell. Tho "emperor" received "his" in short or- Ider a bark from Mitchell's "rogger" and a puff of smoke wore all that was left of tho troublesome "kaiser." The spoon shoot furnished some classy shooting, Harry Reargren, C. E. Wharton, Roy Heagren, Dewey Pearson, George Johnston and A. W. Cowan tied wtih perfotc scores of 25 out of 25. In the shoot-off, they again tied. Tho rules call for tho toss of a coin to decide a second tie. A. W. Cowan proved to be the best guesser and camo off a winner. The challenge medal shoot was another an-other of those heart-rending affairs. C. E. Whatron, Dennis Holohan, Harry Heagren, Harry Luff and A. W. Cowan Cow-an were tied with the perfect scores of 25 out of 25. In the shoot-off, which was ono of the mlss-and-out affairs, Holohan won after outshooting all competitors, rf Competition was keen for points on the Cerva cup. A. W. Cowan, W. F. ( Gallagher, Harry Heagren, Harry Luff and C. E. Wharton, tied for first place with three points each; G. L. Becker, Dennis Holohan, L. E. Riter and Dr. J. F. Irvine were second with two points each, and E. L. Ford, C. S. Par-nell, Par-nell, S. H. Sharman and A. Browning finished third with one point each. Liberty Bond Shoot. Point winners on tho March Liberty bond shoot were G. L. Becker, C. S. Parnell, S. H. Sharman, Dennis Holohan, Holo-han, W. F. Gallaghor, C. E. Wharton and A. W. Cowan each winning one point. Yesterday was' the beginning of the March shooL Uncle John F. Cowan is out of the hospital after an operation and is getting get-ting along nicely. Uncle John could not resist tho temptation of the regular reg-ular Sunday shoot and put ln his appearance ap-pearance at the club bright and early. While the veteran did not compete, he was mighty close up, where he could smell the burning powder and hear the referee calling "dead" and "lost" as the skimmers went sailing out of the traps. Willie Jones, rapidly recovering from a gunshot wound, was on duty again yesterday. Major Bullet, who substituted for Willie during the lat-ter's lat-ter's illness, left yesterday for France. |
