Show BEES WILL AID THE RED CROSS Porterville Chapter Will Get Receipts in Excess of $1,000. PORTERVILLE, March 3. The Bees will do their part toward swelling swell-ing tho treasury surplus of the Porterville Por-terville chapter of tho American Red Cross during their visit here. Through an agreement which has been reached between tho local fans and Manager McCredle, receipts in excess oi $1000 of all exhibition games played hero or in other towns of tbo valley, will be donated to the Red Cross. Because ol Red Cross regulations no advertising to this effect will be possible, but the interest of Red Cross and other workers work-ers have been enlisted in helping attendance at-tendance at the games. Needed rain, breaking a drought of several weeks, has just fallen, and as a result the ball field at the Municipal Athletic park Is in fino condition. The diamond Is as smooth as glass, and a fine stand of turf covens the outfield. For some time It appeared that war conditions would rob the park of the groandkeoper, but this has been obviated ob-viated and the park will be kept in good shape. Arrangements havo been made for the social entertainment of tho Bees during their stay here. Eany next week a reception Is to be given for them under auspicos of tho publicity organizations. Automobile trips through tho citrus groves havo been planned and the fans will see that the boys are kept supplied during their visit hero with the oranges for which the Portervillo district is famous. |
