Show CALL IS ISSUED FOR MACHINISTS Ten Thousand Mechanics, Chauffers and Other Skilled Men Wanted at Once. WASHINGTON, March 4. Call was issued today for 10,000 machinists, mechanics, chauffeurs and other skilled skill-ed workmen needed at onco by the aviation section of tho signal corps, It was stated, and announcement was made that additional Increments must bo obtained from tho same classes in the near future. 9 Tho degree to which the aviation program of tho army depends upon highly skilled labor is shown by the statement that ninety-eight of ovory hundred men in the aviation section must be skilled in somo branch of work." "Men registered in the draft," said tho announcement, "may be Inducted into this service by applying to their local draft board. Men not registered may enlist at any recruiting office. Further Information may be had by applying to tho air division, personnel department, Washington, D. C. In either case they will be sent to San Antonio, Tex., for segregation- by trades, followed by a brief 'course of instruction at tho flying fields, or at the various factories and organized into squadrons mostly for service over seas. Tho present call is especially for machinists, auto mechanics, engine mechanics, gunsmiths, carpenters, blacksmiths, tinsmiths, cabinet makers, mak-ers, electricians, coppersmiths, sheet metal workers, propellor makers, wlroloss operators and constructors, tailors, tent makers, sail makers, truck masters, vulvanlzors, welders and makers, repairers and installers of ignition ig-nition systems, watches and clocks, instruments and typewriters. |
