Show 00 GET READY FOR THE , NEXT LOAN From the Federal Reserve bank at San Francisco the Standard has received re-ceived a direct appeal to the bankers, merchants and manufacfurers to prepare pre-pare to get back of the third Liberty loan by taking treasury certificates bearing 4 per cent. E. W. Wilson, a banker Is quoied as saying: A situation now arises which calls for tho support of every bank that business may proceed on tho even tenor of its way while the nation undertakes un-dertakes the gigantic task of financing finan-cing tho war. The socrelary of the treasury asks that every bank purchase the treasury certificates In advance of tho Liberty loan so that the shock incidental to the transfer of immense sums may bo absorbed. To do this effectively a bank should set aside one per cent of its resources each week over a period and with theso sums purchase tho certificates. Those (homeopathic) doses will not Interfere with the ordinary ordi-nary conduct of the bank. "When the Liberty Loan bonds are issued to purchasers through the bank as an agent, the bonds are exchanged ex-changed for the certificates. It is a simple process of making installment install-ment payments on the Liberty Loan bonds In advance. "Suppose all business in a city ceased at a certain hour, and all tho clerks, salespeople, artisans, merchants mer-chants and late shoppers were to attempt at-tempt to board the street cars in a period of ten minutes. Think of tho confusion, the turmoil and inconvenience! inconven-ience! The traction companies could not be expected to have equipment and men for such a 'peak load Excessive capital invested in adequate rolling stock and power would be idle during twenty-three out of every twenty-four twenty-four hours. Here, Indeed, would be an economic waste. There would be inconvenience to. the public, loses instead in-stead of dividends to tho traction companies, and stagnation in the growth of the population in that city. I But the hours for the cessation of j business are distributed over a period and although thousands go from business bus-iness to homes each night they arc handled with comparative ease and comfort.
