John Edward Carver, pastor of the First Presbyterian church of Op-den, Op-den, was chosen head of the Ogden chapter of the Ited Cross society by members of the organization at the election yesterday afternoon. Tho announcement an-nouncement was made at the annual meeting of the chapter last night in the city hall. Rev. Carver Is president of the chapter at present, having been elected a year ago. The other officers selected are the following: Miles Li. Jones, vice president. Mrs. .It. B. Porter, secretary; John Watson, treasurer; D. O. McKav, W. L. Wat-lls, Wat-lls, Mrs. E. I Rich, J?, E. Bristol and A. P. Bigelow, executive committee. The election was held between the hours of 2 and S p. m. After it was over, the annual meeting of the chapter chap-ter was held. George F. Oxlev, national nation-al representative of the Red Cross, at-tendod at-tendod the meeting and gave an address. ad-dress. Mr. Oxley spoke of the Red Cross work m America and in Europe, Eur-ope, calling attention to the need of greator relief for the war stricken peoples peo-ples of France, Rumania, Belgium and other places and also of the need of reliof work at home. War work is not all that the Red Cross must undertake, ho said, but duties dut-ies such as sending relief to the flopd stricken town of Tien Tsin In China, to lira swept Salonlkl and other places were also demanded. Tho Red Cross had ever been ready and willing to respond re-spond with such aid, he said, and would continue to do It in a broad, thorough manner. The great need which faces the Red Cross now, he said, is for greater ex-panaJon, ex-panaJon, More workers a41d.jcrea.ter Work Is the cry. if the relief which the organization plans is carried out. The end of the war will only come, Mr. Oxley said, when America has sent over a vast number of troops and has provisioned thorn thoroughly.
