Show THOMAS PIT SHOP DAMAGED BY M EARLY FI The fire department was called to two fires today. The first one was in the Thomas print shop, at 2476 Washington avenue. The alarm was turned in shortly after 4 o'clock this morning. On arriving on the scene, the department found the basement filled with smoke and a fire in the rear end, which had gained such headway that three streams of water were turned Into the basement. The fire burned through the ceiling of the basement and threatened for a time to destroy tho entire building. The damage is estimated at $500. Firo is thought to have started in a pile of waste near the furnace in tho rear of j the print shop. Through a mistake on the part of the fire fighters, a stream of water was sent into the Idanha, doing do-ing considerable damage. The second alarm came at 10:30 from the Up-to-Date Cleaning company, com-pany, 2616 Washington avonue. The fire was extinguished with chemicals before any damage was done to the building. Tho loss is in clothing and is estimated at $25. on |
