Show oo PRESENTS FN THE SOLDIER BOYS Those who are planning to send Christmas presents to soldiers with the expeditionary forces in France are urged to mail them at once. Provisions will be made there to hold them until Christmas day before delivery. With the uncertainty of the mails overseas, it has been advised that these presents cannot be sent too soon to guarantee their delivery at the proper time. Packages thus sent should not weigh more than seven pounds It is also urged by Postmaster W. W. Browning that packages destined to points in this country also be mailed in ample time, as conditions are such that there will undoubtedly be delay in deliveries Just previous to Christmas. ' The following notice has been sent out, showing how to wrap and address packages for safe delivery: "Christmas parcels intended for our soldiers, sailors and marines . in France should be accepted only at the ' main postoffice and classified stations but not at contract stations. (All the Ogden stations are contract stations'.) It is necessary that each parcel be opened and inspected in accordance with section 469 of the postal law and regulation, and then marked, "Inspected "In-spected and passed by , postmaster." post-master." All articles not prohibited in the domestic parcel post law may be accepted when packed according to the regulations, but special attention I should be given to the exclusion of intoxicants, poisons, perishable matter, laud other matter prohibited by the postal laws and regulations. "The attention of all postmasters is called to the desirability of urging patrons pa-trons at the proper time to mail their Christmas parcels early.1 Owing to the largo amount of traffic which will bo handled, it is believed that the number num-ber of Christmas parcels this year will far exceed those handled by the postal service in former years. "Parcels must be mailed not later than November 15, and limit of weight Is seven pounds for each parcel going to expeditionary forces in France. "W. W. BROWNING, "Postmaster." |
