A statement issued last evening, after this committee held a meeting, was that strenuous steps must be taken immediately, if relief is to be gained. They are hard at work to prevent a serious coal shortage. short-age. The committee, composed of Dr. E. M. Conroy, S. T. Whitaker and Thomas G. Burl, has done all it can until the people of the city get behind them with information they desire to relievo tho situation. They issued the following statement last night: "Communications received by the federal fuel committee for Weber county this far show serious conditions, condi-tions, and in some instances, pathetic cases have developed. It is earnestly desired that all citizens report immediately immedi-ately and that all dealers in the city and county report to this committee the conditions under which they are compelled to operate; that large consumers, con-sumers, including the school boards, hotels, rooming houses, factories, etc., report the amount on hand, and the amount ordered and not received, giving giv-ing dates of order. This committee earnestly solicits the co-operation of the entire public in this matter, oth-er7ist- it will be impossible to obtain ob-tain results. Please do not use tho telephone. Write the information requested re-quested and mail or deliver to Burc Brothers' store, 2-129-31-33 Washington avenue." There is very little coal In the many retail yards while the orders for coal are pouring in on them. Those will be filled in the order in which they were received, as Tast as coal is re- ceived from the railroads. The dealers--declare they see no releif in sight, because they have orders so far ahead that It will take a great many cars of coal to fill, them and for the yards to assume their normal condition, with coal on hand to fill orders as they are i received. |
