Cotton of New York as head of the meat division which, after November 1, will direct the license control of the nation's packing and slaughtering industries, was announced announc-ed last night by the food administration. administra-tion. Mr. Cotton will make his headquarters head-quarters in Chicago and will operate with H. A. Wheeler, the Illinois state food administrator. Even phase of the meat industry as well as the consuming public will be represented on advisory committees now being organized. "Regulations under the licenses aro being formulated," says a food administration admin-istration statement, "upon the point of view of the provision of a fair profit to the packer and of protection to the grower and consumer. "The food administration has no Intention In-tention to fix the price at which the farmer sells his stock. It has. however, how-ever, the duty of directing export purchases pur-chases of beef and pork products and proposes to use this power to stabilize the price, to support remunerative prices pric-es to the farmer and, by the excision of speculation, to protect the consumer." |
