Show COUNTY BOARD CALLS C.L.FARR BEFORE IT, BUT HAS IT THE J POWER TO DISMISS ATTORNEY IThe following statement was Issued today by tho board of county commissioners com-missioners relative to the recent conflict con-flict between County Attorney Charles L. Farr and mombers of the Liberty loan canvassing committee: "Alleged utterances on the part of the county attorney, C. L. Farr, with regard to tho recent Liberty bond sales having been brought to the atten-. atten-. lion of the county commissioners and Jtv requests having been made' that.ac-'W', that.ac-'W', tlon bo taken by them, members of tho j-pAvwv,oard of county commissioners inves-pSjirated inves-pSjirated their rights In the matter and IfSjfarned that they wore powerless to r take any action other than might be taken by any other citizen and that It was not within their powor to remove the county attorney or take any steps . , looking toward that result. "This preliminary examination was kjjjjfc made, not with the intention of taking IgK such action without further investiga-tion, investiga-tion, but that the board might know B its powers in case It should find such oHE action tq be warranted. Claims Loyalty. "The board requested Mr. Farr to his version of the circumstances. Mr. Farr, very willingly, consented, and informed in-formed the board to much the same effect as ho had previously informed the public in statements in the public prints. He expressed contrition for his rudeness and lack of courtesy in receiving re-ceiving the members of the Liberty bond sales committee anu admitted having acted in a hasty and discourteous discourte-ous manner. He informed the board that he had visited the various members mem-bers of the committee and apologized for his conduct and also informed them that his sentiments were not such as his reported statements might ". have led them o believe. He also L informed the board that his actions and words had been misconstrued and that he was a firm and steadfast sup-portor sup-portor in words, and, it necessary, In deeds, of the government of the United States in tho prosecution of Its war with Germany. Board Condemns Disloyalty. "At this time and in this connection the membors of tho board of county commissioners desire to take the op-portunity op-portunity of expressing their sentiments senti-ments with regard to disloyalty on the part of any citizen and disloyal utterances, utter-ances, no matter by whom made. We believe It to be the duty of overy citizen citi-zen and particularly those holding public office to support the government govern-ment of the United States in the pros-ent pros-ent crisis, by every means in their power of office to tho greatest extent possible, and in private life, by word and deed, encouraging the prosecution prosecu-tion of the war and tho raising of funds In carrying it out. We have no patience rpr sympathy with the man or woman who, showered by the army and navy of the United States, dares to open his mouth and utter traitorouB comments or Insinuations against the, government or to attempt to discour age or ninuer uie government or tne people in carrying on their dut3' to democracy and the world. Whenevor it is possible and wherever it is possible possi-ble the county officials, both officially and individually, will do all that lies within their power to further the most important business which confronts the United States today to successful prosecution in the war with Germany. "Any county employe who is not willing to subscribe to the above sentiments senti-ments will be very quickly removed from his connection with the pay roll if he fails to measure up to the full standard of citizenship In the present crisis; provided, that It is within the power of the board of county commissioners commis-sioners to effect his removal." |
