Show Hudsons Hold Price H .As Motor Costs ' Soar BP super-six price raise is forecast, by Pl MATERIAL market I J "Until war raided the material markets and' sent the cost of raw ma terials soaring, the tendency In American automobile competition was to produce finer cars each year at lower prices," said L. L. Hains, of the Ogden Motor Car company. "Now automobile prices are ascending again, against the desire of the manufacturer. Every company that is forced to buy materials at the present prices must advance the price of its car approximately 25 per cent in order to tmake even a fair profit. "The most important single material Item In an automobile Is plg-lron and pig-iron products. Note how it has advanced. Last December It cost Bj $30 a ton. In January it was $32; February, $32; March, $34; April, $36; I May, $40; June, $44 and July $54. And it has by no means reached the peak of Its advance. "It is clear that companies paying $54 for material which formerly cost around $20 and $25 must raise their prices to show a profit. Within With-in the last month at least four large automobile manufacturers have announced an-nounced price advances of about 25 per cent. Cars formerly costing $1200 now are selling around $1550, a Jump of $350. "The Hudson Super-Six Is able to continue selling at the price it listed at the beginning of the year because the company has a considerable stock of imaterlal bought at last year's prices, which average more than 100 per cent less than present material coots. "When this material is exhausted, which it will be before' many weeks, the Hudson company will have to buy raw materials at the new prices, and the Super-Six price will be advanced. For persons thinking of buying a motor car, now is by all means the time for them to make the purchase. "This Is especially the part of business acumen in those who are thinking think-ing of buying a Hudson Super-Six. The present price of the Super-Six is based on last year's material market. When the present stock a made up fc the price must advance sharply, because we will be paying double what we MnjT X' paid fr materials a year ago. Bjr "The abnormal sales of motor cars during the last two months is due Hr to the realization" of many people that the cars vill not again be so moderate "jjjH in price until after the war possibly never again. Cars using about the "jjjH same quantity of raw material as does the Super-Six have already advanced "jjjH 25 per cent within the past two months. The Hudson, too, will have to ad- vance In price before long. People who order motor cars now will securo the best prices they will see for years." Advertisement. |
