Show saiviuel e. m. ii S CI01IE FOR MftYBR A virtual denial of the statement that he, would allow himself to be nominated as a candidate for the position posi-tion of four-year city commissioner at the coming eleotlon was mado this morning by Samuel G. Dye at the Security Se-curity bank. Mr. Dye's name has been discussed considerably during the past few weekB as a possible candidate for the position now occupied by Chris Fly gare and several of his friends have been urging him to accept tho nomination nomina-tion and get into the race for the posi tion. Mr. Dye claims that business takes too much of his time to allow him to participate actively in politics "I thoroughly appreciate the confidence confi-dence expressed by my friends and those who have favorably thought of my nomination," he said, "but I think I shall not enter the race. I am too busily engaged with buslnesspo enter an active political fight and even if elected would not be able to devote the required amount of time to the work. I am pretty well satisfied with my present situation and, although I realize real-ize It to be the duty of a good citizen to lend his aid if called upon to do bo, yet I do not think it would be wise to make any change. ''I have thought the matter over considerably con-siderably and have concluded not to become a candidate." There are still but two announced candidates for the position. Chris Fly-gare, Fly-gare, the present incumbent, and Job Pingree have both declared their hats o he In the ring. Several names have been suggested as possible prospects for this position but there havo been no definite statements from the men considered. The proposal of nominating a woman wom-an for the position has been a subject sub-ject of lively interest and discussion throughout the city for several days, but both of the proposed candidates, Miss Josephine Seaman and Mrs. Georgina Marriott, have virtually refused re-fused to enter the race. |
