Show BASKETS Al FREIGHT I GARS SHORT, SAYS PEACH MEN H Ono of tho peculiar situations con- H (fronting orchardists of Weber and Box H 'Elder counties at present Is the short- H age of peach packing baskets. Now H that the shipping season Is at Its H height and fancy prices arc being of- H fered for prime fruit in eastern mar- H kets, the growers are straining every H (effort to get, their fruit packed and H sent eaBt. The shortage of baskets H however, has caused many of the or- H chardists to sell their fruit to tho can- H Cning factories at loweT prices than tho H eastern markets would give. Tho bas- H kets are made In Texas and Iowa prln- H jclpally and the supply has diminished H Jto a considerable extent, according to reports from all parts of tho Wober and Box Elder counties. Orders for cars are pressing all tho local railroads. Sovoral carloads of fruit are being shipped daily from Ogden, coming to the city mainly over tho O., L. and I. electric line from the north and being then transferred to tho Union Pacific for shipment east. Ten cars woro supplied North Ogden today and shipments from that district will be handled Immediately. It Is said that If the growers could secure an adequato supply of baskets and cars eno'ugh they could easily find a market for all of thoir prime peaches. |
