Show II I i TWENTY HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES REPORT FOR SEASON'S FOOTBALL Team Considerably Crippled by Loss of Falck, Dee and Glas-mann Glas-mann But Coach Duff Expects Strong Aggregation Before Far Into Season. I Prospects for a successful! football ; season at the Ogden high school are fair this year, according to Coach Duff. About twenty boys reported last night J for practice, it being the first turn r outof the season. Thirty-fivo are expected ex-pected tonight and by the next week r Coach Duff Is of the opinion that he ' -will have forty or more youngsters anxious to win a place on the team. L Equipment for forty has been pro- vided. The team has been crippled consid-' consid-' erably through the loss of Leo Falch, T Glen Deo and Bill Glasmann, who - held up a heavy end last year, but it is thought that some of the other old r men who arc in the lineup of ellgibles this year will develop some good stuff , and build up the team to a pretty strong aggregation. There aro five men on the lineup this year who played last year. They are Vincent and Maurice Mau-rice Conroy, Bagley, Erwin and Rich-- Rich-- ards. All of these chans have won letters and can be depended on to do their share of the work in this year's campaign. Coach Duff thinks ho will 7 be able to shape out a pretty strong ' team with the material available but . is not making any before battle boasts aa he is not sure that the bunch has " the real old championship qualiflca-' qualiflca-' tions. ; Preliminary work was jjono through J last night, the boys being given neces- II sary aavice mainiy ana put tnrougn a i - few simple evolutions. Real practice will be given tonight ami by the middle mid-dle of ne.Tt week It is thought a nip ' and tuck brittle will be going on among the eligibles for places on tho first line. The boys aro all keenly enthusiastic enthusi-astic about the game this season, Coach Duff says, and arc going Into the practice w.ork as though they were training for servico against Germany. Tho boys who are accepted for the team will not bo required to tako military mili-tary drill so that they may give all their time after school hours to practicing prac-ticing football. Reports from tho Salt Lake high schools, Ogden's ancient and hated enemy, arc to the effect that about 100 men aro out training and have dcter-minod dcter-minod to win back tho laurels lost year to tho junction city boys. Tho Ogden team has. not taken this information too seriously, however, and is going to work steadily to do Its level best and lot the contests, to come within a few weeks, decide tho issue. A meeting will be held in Salt Lake on Saturday by coaches of all of the high schools to arrange a schedule. The football schodulo as well as a schedule for activities later in the season sea-son will be planned. Coach Duff from the high school will attend tho meeting. meet-ing. Allot the athletic interest at tho high school is centoring around football now. There may be a few tennis contests con-tests arranged for later in the season sea-son but the courses are in such shapo that it is impossible to any tennis playing at present. They were allowed to nourish a. good crop of weeds j t i Tri i rr- t li r atimmriT- iTifl nnonnllanfli are in no shapo for playing. Coach Duff Is of the opinion that the athletic prospect in general Is good i at tho high school this year and looks I forward to somo share of glory although al-though not very sanguine or championship champion-ship results. |
