Show MISTAKE OF GROCER COST HIM HIS LIFE Watseka, 111., Jan. 7.- Francis La-bounty, La-bounty, a grocer, was shot to death early today by A. J. Bailee, assistant city marshal, who mistook him and was mistaken bv him for a robber who had held up the grocer a short time before Labountj was held up by two men and robbed of $100. After reporting report-ing the theft to the city hall, La-bounty La-bounty took a revolver and started to look tor the robbers at the same time that Marshal Bailey left the city hall on the same mission. Each man saw the other creeping cautiously along a darkened stnet Labouniy opened fire and Bailey replied. Labounty, with a bullet in his breast, ran to the city hall, pursued by Bailey, who did not discover his I mistake until he saw Labountv drop! dead in the office of Marshal Thomas j Harper. Bailey was locked up. |
